Kicheche Laikipia
Ol Pejeta Conservancy
At the base of Mount Kenya, Kicheche Laikipia was the first “camp” of our journey. There are just 6 canvas tents tents for guests that overlook a small lake where animals water daily.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy protects a large population of rhinos along with a broad array of wildlife.
Each day began with a 6 AM Game Drive and ended with a gourmet meal that followed our evening Game Drive and “sundowner” cocktails.
Below are a few photos documenting our travel, then a Gallery of Animals for you to click through.
At the bottom of the page you will find links to a couple unique stories we watched unfold, as well as images of our camp and fellow travelers.
Getting There
The trip from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta marked our first experience with KenyaAir, followed by a slow drive that crossed the equator a few times before we arrived at Kicheche Laikipia.
The Animal Gallery
Laikipia was our first stop. Not surprisingly, I took more photos here than any other location. It took me a while to realize I would see another giraffe on the trip, and rhino, and elephant, and gazelle, etc. I apologize for the image dump.
Three Stories - click on the images below
First: The Celibate Lions. Word came over the radio that a lion pair was mating in tall grass, so we went to chaperone.
Next: Grant’s Gazelle vs. a Jackal. Watch a male Grant’s Gazelle work to protect his harem from a persistent jackal.
Finally: The Junior Varsity Pride attempts to capture dinner.
